Cookie policy

This policy on the use of cookies is available to users pursuant to the provision laid down by the Italian Data Protection Authority on 8th May 2014 "Simplified Arrangements to Provide Information and Obtain Consent Regarding Cookies" (published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 126 of 3rd June 2014) and in compliance with article 13 of the Privacy Law (Legislative Decree no. 196/2003).

The website uses exclusively technical cookies, both their own and those of third parties
, to ensure efficient browsing on the website and to collect aggregate data regarding the number of users and how they visit the site, in order to be able to constantly improve the service.
There follows information regarding the use of cookies and similar technologies.

Cookies are small text files (letters and/or numbers) that allow the web server to store information on the user’s terminal equipment (browser), to be reused while visiting the site (session cookies), or on subsequent visits, even several days later, (persistent cookies). The cookies are stored in accordance with the browser settings selected by the user on each specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone).

Similar technologies, such as web beacons, transparent GIFs and all forms of local storage introduced by HTML5, can be used to gather information regarding user behaviour and use of the services.

In the rest of this document we will refer to cookies and all similar technologies simply using the term "cookies".

Types of cookies
Cookies can be divided into different categories according to their characteristics and use:

Technical cookies:

  • these are browsing, functional or session cookies  - used purely to ensure the correct functioning of the site;
  • cookie analytics  - used to collect aggregate data regarding the number of visitors and how they visit the site, with the aim of constantly improving quality of service and content organisation, using the support of the different platforms and browsers.

The site uses exclusively cookies of this type.

Profiling cookies

  • permanent cookies used for identifying user preferences (either anonymously or not) and improving their browsing experience.

The site does not use cookies of this type.

Cookie duration
The use of so-called session cookies (which are not stored permanently on the user’s computer and disappear upon closing the browser) is exclusively limited to the transmission of session ID’s (consisting of random numbers generated by the server) which are necessary to allow secure, effective navigation.  The so-called session cookies used by this site make it unnecessary to implement other computer techniques that are potentially detrimental to the confidentiality of user navigation, whilst also not allowing the acquisition of the user’s personal identification data.

This website uses “Google Analytics”, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. ("Google")which uses persistent cookies placed on the user’s computer to allow an analysis of pages visited and to improve services and site usage.

The information stored by the cookies regarding website use is transmitted to the Google servers where user activity is tracked and examined, reports on website activity are compiled for website operators, and other services relating to website activity are provided. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf.  Google will not associate the user’s IP address with any other data held by Google.
By using the website of the University the user consents  to the processing of data by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

In any case, the user may decline the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on their browser and increasing the level of privacy protection, however this may mean that some features will not function properly or be available.

At any time the user has the right to disable cookies on their PC to prevent their data from being used by Google Analytics by following the instructions described on the website

Third-party technical cookies

The websites on the Portal use the Google Analytics service which creates technical analytics cookies used to collect aggregate data on the number of users and how they visit the site.  This information is used for the continuous improvement of functionality, content organisation and the different platforms and browsers. The Google Analytics privacy policy can be consulted at the following address:

Third-party websites and services
The Portal includes links to third-party websites and services whose cookie management is described in the cookie policies published on the related websites.

Managing Cookies
The user may decide whether to accept cookies or not by adjusting the settings on their browser.
Warning: the total or partial disabling of technical cookies may compromise the use of some functions reserved for registered users. However, the usability of the public content is unaffected even with cookies completely disabled.

The disabling of “third-party” cookies in no way compromises browsing.

Settings can be selected specifically for different sites and applications. The leading browsers also allow you to select different settings for first-party and third-party cookies.
