Master.Lab Design Direction: Communication & Management

Art as a driver of contemporary business. One-year Master’s Degree – 60 ECTS


Avant-garde art, fashion, design, communication, exhibition set-up and photography are all essential features of Italian innovation in businesses that bear the “Made in Italy” label on the international market. By carefully evaluating the changing scenarios in these fields, companies can come up with and/or update strategies and product lines that are appropriate for a continually evolving global market.

Art, design, fashion and tourism are absolutely fundamental in promoting Italy as a country at the forefront of contemporary international business. The functional integration of design culture and business culture is a key part of maintaining market leadership. A Design Director has the professional skills needed to lead the businesses of today through: research, concept development, advanced design, product development, launch of products and collections, and the creative management of new programmes and services for public and private benefit. Creativity thus becomes a business discipline.


This one-year master’s degree introduces students to contemporary business history and emerging disciplines such as design, marketing, logistics, virtuality, fashion, e-commerce, communication, promotion, exhibition set-up, event management and photography. Through classroom work, the development of projects and partnerships with companies in the field, the role of the Design Director will emerge as the leader of a new renaissance in Italian industrial art.


The integration of design culture with business culture takes place through the teachings and experiences of experts in fashion, design, tourism, industrial art, urban management and transportation management (air, rail, water and road); through workshops; through experiences in places of culture and design; and through the learning of advanced design. The result is professional training that is competitive on an international level.

The programme is divided into modules, workshops, exercises, internships and a final examination. At the end of each module students will carry out an exercise connected to one of the workshops, followed by a progress test in order to acquire the corresponding number of credits. At the end of the course, the programme’s team of coordinators will propose an internship to each participating student.

The faculty is made up of teachers who have years of experience in training and research, as well as managers, entrepreneurs, professionals and experts from the worlds of business, design, fashion, tourism, cultural heritage, urban transformation and “Made in Italy” culture.

This master’s programme features partnerships with leading companies in the fields of design, fashion, tourism, urban development and “Made in Italy” culture.

Entry requirements
This master’s degree programme is open to anyone in possession of a first-cycle undergraduate degree and or first-cycle diploma in Architecture; Design; Economics; Engineering; Communications; Tourism; Arts, Design and Entertainment; or equivalent cultural subject matter.
